How to Defeat the Declarer: A Focus on Attitude and Suit Preference Signals Defense is where many partnerships give away tricks they should be taking. The reason is not usually effort or intelligence. It is a lack of clear partnership communication. This class is designed to help fix this issue by developing a much stronger understanding of how defenders correctly communicate with one another and how to turn that communication into tricks. The first major focus of the class will be attitude, the primary signal defenders use to communicate whether they like or dislike a suit. We will cover exactly when attitude applies, when it does not apply, and why that distinction matters so much. The second major focus will be the suit preference signal, which is one of the most useful and fun tools defenders have. Suit preference allows the partnership to communicate which suits they prefer, often in time-sensitive defensive situations where passing information quickly is critical. After this class, you will be far better equipped to communicate with your partner on defense and understand what information partner is expressing. You will also become more alert to the possibility that the opponents may be giving away similar information through their own signals. In other words, this class is not just about sending signals well. It is also about becoming a stronger reader of the entire defensive picture. Your class link will be provided in your confirmation.
