Support doubles are one of the most popular conventions in bridge because they solve one of the most critical problems in competitive auctions: determining whether your partnership has a seven-card fit, an eight-card fit, or better. Without this convention, partnerships are left guessing — and guessing wrong costs tricks and contracts. By using support doubles, the opening hand immediately communicates the exact nature of their support, giving responder the information needed to make accurate decisions and utilize the Law of Total Tricks effectively. While not an essential convention, support doubles are an extremely powerful and useful one — and once in place, a tool you will wonder how you ever played without. In this interactive online class, Corey Krantz and Sylwia McNamara will teach the convention in full, with emphasis on the why behind it. We will cover when support doubles apply, how to distinguish three-card from four-card support, and how to navigate forcing and non-forcing auctions. Understanding the logic is essential — it keeps players from forgetting the convention in the heat of competition, one of the most common errors. We will work through key bidding decisions on the Shark platform so you can see exactly how the convention works in practice. You will also get the opportunity to play hands and work on declarer play as part of the class. Your class link will be provided in your confirmation.
